The world, which judges according to the flesh and not according to the mind of Christ and the Spirit, does not understand the grave and indeed diabolical tragedy in the fact that human beings were dismembered and literally thrown away in the trash. Furthermore, very few people realize the enormous sorrow those of us feel even now who went to this filthy, rat-infested alley to retrieve the remains of the preborn children out of the garbage. The graphic images of these mangled abandoned children have carved a scar into my eye that will remain forever.

When we had these babies with us we regarded them as if they were the body of Jesus Himself just taken down from the Cross. We refused to allow them to stay in any dirty place like a garage or a shed, but found them space inside our houses. We called priests to bless them.

As long as we had the bodies of these children they were a reminder to pray for true peace in the world—to pray for the mothers and fathers of these children—and to pray for the abortionist who was hired to kill them.

We had always looked forward with the greatest desire to the burial service for these children. When we asked if the archdiocese would provide a burial plot we never thought there would not be a formal burial ceremony for these victims of our American holocaust. We thought there would be a service which we would help plan, participate in, and invite others to attend. We believed nothing we could have done would have been a greater witness to the world to the humanity of these children, and the national tragedy they represent could be mourned by all.

… It was a God-given privilege and a blessing that we were able to retrieve at least these five hundred victims of abortion from the degradation of being permanently “buried” at a refuse dump somewhere. A planned and formal ceremony would have been a real testimony to the Chicago community and the world that indeed these preborn children were human and their lives sacred.
